UNDERSTANDING YOUR NUMBERS

HOW TO CALCULATE
SALON PROFIT.

A busy salon isn't necessarily a profitable salon. You need to understand how much money each appointment brings in, what it costs to deliver the service and how much you spend running the business.

01. Calculate Appointments

Multiply daily appointments by opening days per week and convert the result into an average month.

02. Calculate Revenue

Multiply monthly appointments by your average price, then add any chair rental income.

03. Deduct Expenses

Subtract products, card fees, staffing, rent, utilities, marketing and other costs.

Example: A Busy Barbershop

Imagine a barbershop charging £25 per appointment and serving 12 customers per day, 6 days a week.

That works out to approximately 312 appointments per month and £7,800 monthly revenue.

With £2 in products per appointment, a 1.5% payment processing fee, £3,000 monthly staff costs and £1,650 in other expenses, estimated monthly profit would be £2,409 before tax.

This example assumes consistent appointments, no chair rental income and no additional unlisted expenses.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

BARBER & SALON FAQS.

How much profit can a barbershop make in the UK?

Profit depends on appointment prices, number of customers, staffing, rent and other operating costs. Use the calculator above to explore different scenarios using your own business figures.

How do I calculate salon profit?

Calculate total appointment revenue, add other income such as chair rental, then deduct products, staff costs, rent, utilities, marketing and other expenses.

Is running a hair salon profitable?

It can be, but profitability depends on your prices, appointment demand, staff productivity and operating costs. Busy salons still need to manage expenses carefully.

Can I include chair rental income?

Yes. Enter the monthly amount you receive from independent barbers or stylists. Do not also count their customer payments as your own appointment revenue.

Does this calculator include staff wages?

Yes. Enter total monthly staffing expenses, including employer costs. Your own wages or drawings are not automatically included.

How many appointments do I need to break even?

The calculator estimates the number of monthly appointments needed to cover fixed expenses after accounting for product and payment fees. Chair rental income reduces the amount that appointments need to cover.

Does this calculator include VAT?

No. VAT is not calculated separately. If your business is VAT-registered, use appropriate VAT-exclusive figures and account for VAT separately.

Is this barber and salon calculator free?

Yes. It is completely free to use, with no registration, email address or payment required.
